Have you ever played the, “Kevin Bacon, degrees of separation,” game? You know the one where you name an actor and you link that actor to Kevin Bacon. Well try this game: "Cancer degrees of Separation.” I'll bet you would be hard pressed to not be able to link yourself to someone who has had cancer in some form without needing to use another person. Cancer is so prevalent in our society that we almost turn a blind eye to it. The American Cancer Society is making great strides in Cancer research, but really needs help if they are going to win this fight.
I wouldn't be an Action Hero If I didn't help as much as I can. When the Canton Ohio branch asked me to speak for their group meeting, I gladly volunteered to do it. When they asked me to become, “man in pink.” I didn't hesitate and ordered a pink tie and shirt. Because I have first hand experience with cancer, it was personal for me. The more I did the research on how prevalent cancer is, I realized it should be personal for everyone.
On any given year, Starbucks sells 4 Billion cups of coffee. Each of those cups sells for an average of $2.69. That is 10.76 BILLION dollars a year, or, 29.47 million dollars a day. What could be cured if we all gave the price of a cup of coffee for one day? I know that giving up the elixir of life is unheard of, but, I like thinking big. I know we can do this.
What does it mean to be a, ”Man in Pink?” I am competing with several local business men to see who can raise the most for the American Cancer Society. The winner gets a really nice prize which I plan on raffling off or donating to a survivor to help even more. None of the business men are getting anything out of this except the satisfaction of doing our part. Now I would like to ask you to do your part. Take a moment and play the Cancer Degrees of Separation game. If you found Cancer within less than five moves donate (and if you know me it's only one move). If you would like to simply help, donate. If you can't sleep at night, give up coffee, and then donate.
We can do this together. There is nothing we can't accomplish. Do it Now. Don't wait. If we don't do it now, when will we? It became personal for me when it happened to me. If you are cancer free, you can do something before it becomes personal for you. Click on my face and help me reach our goal of defeating cancer by donating. I know we can raise much more than they expect. Let's give Cancer patients a real chance this year.
