What you give you will get back. Gandhi said,” You must be the change you wish to see in the world.” This is not a grandiose esoteric statement, but a truth found in some of the greatest writings ever written. In the bible it states,” I Am THAT I Am.” In business we often see phrases like ,”Fake it 'til you make it.” I do not believe it is “faking it,” rather, I believe it is embodying it.
There is another statement that goes, “you get what you give.” In the year 2000 I spent a month traveling through Egypt. It was a wonderful experience meeting wonderful people who treated me like a Prince. As I traveled through this beautiful country, I had an excitement to not only see the country but enjoy its people. I can not express how many kindnesses I was shown while there. One story demonstrates them very clearly. While climbing Mt Sinai at 2am, I suddenly heard my name being called (no it wasn't God) it was the manager of the hotel where I was staying. He ran up the mountain to bring me a coat because he thought I'd be cold at the top.
The next day I descended from the mountain and visited St. Catherine's monastery at the base. There I ran into another American. “Have you had problems since you've been here?” He asked me. I told him I hadn't. “Everywhere I go everyone wants to fight me! They don't realize I am a black belt and would kick their asses.” he said with disdain in his voice. After talking with him for a few more minutes, I wanted to fight him. This guy was a jerk.
We each had very different experiences in Egypt. I went there with the expectation of a great time with wonderful people. He went there embodying fear and bravado. We each got what we expressed. Some truths are just truths. Embody the end result and then you will experience it.
